Jack Herrington have a new interesting article about Rich Ajax slide shows with DHTML and XML, published on the IBM DeveloperWorks. In this tutorial Jack shows how to create an Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) client-side slide show that's animated using "Ken Burns Effects." You'll discover how to build XML data sources for Ajax, request XML data from the client, and then dynamically create and animate HTML elements with that XML.

If the Web 2.0 revolution has one buzzword, it's Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax). The client-side interactivity in applications such as Google Maps™ mapping service and Gmail™ webmail service make Ajax both exciting and useful. The technologies of Ajax, including Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), JavaScript coding, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), XML, and asynchronous Web requests, can create far more compelling Web interactions than those we saw in Web V1.0. Of course, these technologies have been around since Microsoft® Internet Explorer® V4, but only recently have other high-profile applications displayed the benefits.

The resulted effect is very nice, a very good example using AJAX and PHP to show more rich experience we can create for the web. IBM which is leading a very big open source project to create an unified framework for AJAX, is always promoting open source and rich internet applications in their DeveloperWorks, but there is no big news yet when Open AJAX will open its doors.
