According to several official sources, Google is going to officially announce today their new Google Spreadsheet service. Jonathan Rochelle, the product manager of the new application, told AP that Google planned to begin accepting sign-ups for the spreadsheet at 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday through the “labs” section of its Web site. Rochelle, who was the founder of XL2Web, wouldn’t specify how many people will be granted access to the spreadsheet application but it will be certainly a limited edition as Google has usually done.

Could this be a new acquisition or a home-made product since it will be available via Google Labs ? Anyway, at the same time that I'm writing this, the application already goes live in a limited test. You fill in your email address, and Google we'll send you an invitation - first-come, first-served.

Google also wants more time to smooth out any possible kinks and develop more features, said Jonathan Rochelle, the product manager of the new application.
